Senior Trial Counsel

Jane M. Cuthbert’s primary practice area is civil litigation. The majority of her practice involves the defense of personal injury, property damage, and products liability cases for insurance and self-insured companies. Ms. Cuthbert also handles personal injury cases on a select basis. Her specialty lies in the litigation process, including handling all matters related to discovery, motion practice and trials. Ms. Cuthbert has tried several cases to successful conclusion for her clients, including defense verdicts. Ms. Cuthbert also secured an excess verdict on behalf of one of her personal injury clients.

Prior to joining Weiss Law Office, S.C., Ms. Cuthbert spent almost 6 years as a Senior Trial Attorney with one of the country’s largest insurers of vehicles, homes and small businesses. As part of her tenure with that company, she tried several lawsuits with outstanding results for the company and her insured clients. Her practice included handling the company’s more complex and higher exposure claims. In addition to her successful law practice, Ms. Cuthbert was recognized by her former insurance employer as having demonstrated leadership qualities, leading her to be invited to participate in the intensive Presidential Leadership Program at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California. Before her practice as in-house counsel, she practiced with one of Milwaukee’s premiere litigation boutique law firms with a focus on honing her skills of trial advocacy.

Community Involvement

Ms. Cuthbert is passionate about advocating for the needs of her clients with enthusiasm and sensitivity to clients’ individual needs. Ms. Cuthbert carries that passion into her work as a peer volunteer with the State Bar of Wisconsin’s WISLAP program which provides confidential assistance to lawyers, judges, law students and their families. The program is designed to help legal professionals experiencing mental, emotional or physical problems such as depression, anxiety physical illness or alcohol or drug abuse.

Additionally, Ms. Cuthbert also has a passion for children. In 2014, her passion for advocacy and children led her to become a volunteer with Kids Matter CASA as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (“CASA”) for abused and neglected children in the Milwaukee County Circuit Court, Children’s Court Division. Kids Matter CASA advocates for the rights of these children to grow up in a safe, nurturing and permanent home.

Ms. Cuthbert was also recently named as a member of the Board of Directors for the Moms Mental Health Initiative, an organization dedicated to helping families navigate perinatal depression and anxiety by connecting moms in the Greater Milwaukee area to professional resources and mom to mom support.
